The story · Since 2018
Polar went just shy of five years without a new multisport watch before the Vantage. Within a year, Ironman racer Lucy Charles-Barclay credited a Vantage V with her first-ever sub-3-hour marathon.

Announced on 13 September 2018, the Vantage V cost $499 and the Vantage M $279. The V weighed 66 g against 79 g for the V800 before it, offered up to 40 hours of GPS, and used an optical sensor with nine LEDs plus four skin-contact electrodes.
Triathlete Lucy Charles-Barclay began her partnership with Polar in the off-season and trained with the Vantage V and the Polar H10 heart rate sensor.
The Vantage V2, announced on 7 October 2020, became a single model, rated to 100 m instead of 50 m. It added a running performance test for VO2max, a cycling FTP test, a jump-based leg recovery test, FuelWise fuelling alerts, Hill Splitter and a 100-hour GPS mode.
The Vantage V3 brought a 1.39-inch AMOLED, dual-frequency GNSS, free offline maps on 32 GB of storage and Polar's Elixir biosensing with ECG and skin temperature. At $599 it could log up to 140 hours of GPS at reduced recording rates.
The British long-distance triathlete trained with the Vantage V and said it helped her run her first-ever sub-3-hour marathon, at the IRONMAN African Championship.
Polar's launch article for the Vantage V shows triathlete Sebastian Kienle running with the watch (the Vantage line).
2023. DC Rainmaker called the Vantage V3 arguably the most important product for the company in at least a decade, after a rough few years for Polar.
2023. The V3 launched on the same day as Suunto's Race, which undercut it by $150.
Pre-orders opened 11 October 2023 for a 47.3mm watch with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen.
First Vantage V to accept standard 22mm bands, replacing the proprietary connector.
Launched March 24, 2021 as the update to the Vantage M.
Takes any 22mm strap, with a new strap that lies flat against the case.
Polar refreshed the Vantage V in fall 2020.
Kept a swappable but proprietary strap design.
Polar says the Vantage V was the first multisport watch to measure running power from the wrist, with no foot pod needed.

The gap between the two lugs that hold the strap, in millimetres. A new strap must match it exactly: 20 mm lugs take a 20 mm strap.
Most watches use spring bars, so any strap of the right width fits. Many smartwatches use their own band system instead, such as Apple Watch bands or Garmin QuickFit.
