Withings traces the ScanWatch back to the Activite of 2014, which it credits with launching the hybrid smartwatch genre ahead of the first Apple Watch. Nokia owned the company from 2016 until co-founder Eric Carreel bought it back in 2018.
Presented in January 2020, the ScanWatch paired an ECG with continuous blood oxygen sensing, aimed at early signs of atrial fibrillation and sleep apnea. CEO Mathieu Letombe called it the company's most ambitious medical tracker; it sold in Europe from 38 mm at 279 euros while US clearance was pending.
On 29 September 2021 Withings added the ScanWatch Horizon, a 43 mm steel diver with a rotating bezel, sapphire glass and 10 ATM water resistance. Its US launch, planned for Q4 2021, was postponed to 17 May; the watch needed FDA clearance for its ECG before it could be sold in the US.
At IFA in Berlin on 31 August 2023 came the ScanWatch 2, with a heat-flux sensor for skin temperature and cycle tracking, and the cheaper ScanWatch Light.
The ScanWatch Nova, announced on 8 December 2023 at 599.95 dollars, moved the ECG electrodes into a ceramic and steel rotating bezel and added round-the-clock temperature tracking. It reached retail partners on 1 February 2024.
At IFA Berlin on 6 September 2024 Withings showed the ScanWatch Nova Brilliant, a 39 mm version of the Nova with a fluted bezel, a box-shaped sapphire glass and a five-link bracelet. On 5 September 2025 a refreshed ScanWatch 2 arrived with the HealthSense 4 software, 35 tracked biomarkers, a battery rated at 35 days and a Midnight Blue colour.
The winner of seven Grand Tours began the Tour de France wearing a ScanWatch Horizon, and Withings quotes him using the ScanWatch for pre- and post-ride heart rate and oxygen saturation checks. Withings says he was a genuine user before joining its ambassador programme.
The French judoka, one of four athletes Withings signed in October 2023 ahead of Paris 2024, says in the Withings release that her ScanWatch is her best ally for cardio. Ambassador; the only source is the maker.
The French handball winger, an Olympic medallist in Tokyo, says in the same Withings release that his ScanWatch helps him monitor his recovery and heart health. Ambassador; the only source is the maker.
2024. The ScanWatch Nova Brilliant, shown at IFA on 6 September 2024, reached withings.com in early November 2024 and was named a CES Innovation Awards 2025 Honoree in Fashion Tech.
2023. By the Nova launch, Withings said nearly 2 million signs of atrial fibrillation had been identified on ScanWatch devices since 2020.
2023. On 19 October 2023 Withings announced four French athletes preparing for Paris 2024, in judo, fencing, handball and boxing, equipped with the ScanWatch, the Body Scan scale and the Sleep Analyzer.
2022. Chris Froome began the Tour de France with a ScanWatch Horizon on his wrist, using it to track his weight and sleep.
2021. The Horizon went on sale in the UK, France and Germany and through jewellers as well as tech shops, while a US release awaited FDA approval of its ECG.
2021. Withings announced FDA clearance for ScanWatch's ECG and SpO2 on 12 October 2021 and began US sales on 9 November 2021, from $279.
2020. Unveiled in Las Vegas on 5 January 2020, the ScanWatch came to CES already holding three CES Innovation Awards, and Engadget's editors named it the best digital health and fitness product of the show.
The ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition was a CES Innovation Awards 2025 Honoree in Fashion Tech, the organiser's term for every award recipient.
The first ScanWatch received three CES Innovation Awards at its launch; L'Obs names the categories as Embedded Technologies, Wearable Technologies and Fitness and Sports.
Announced on August 31, 2023 in 38mm and 42mm, adding 24/7 temperature tracking to ECG and SpO2.
Withings says the 38mm takes 18mm bands and the 42mm takes 20mm bands, fitted with quick-release spring bars.
A simpler 37mm sibling launched with the ScanWatch 2, dropping ECG, SpO2 and temperature sensing.
Single 37mm case size.

Yes. Withings support says you can use any wristband you like, as long as it has the right width for your case.
Each band is held by quick-release spring bars. Turn the watch over, pull the small knob of the spring bar to the side, lift the band out and fit the new one the same way, then repeat on the other side.

Most watches use spring bars, so any strap of the right width fits. Many smartwatches use their own band system instead, such as Apple Watch bands or Garmin QuickFit.
