The story of the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59
In January 2019 Audemars Piguet unveiled 13 references of a new collection meant to stand beside the Royal Oak, and drew more than 500 mocking comments on a single Hodinkee post. A Code 11.59, the Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4, later won the Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.

A secret project beyond the Royal Oak
Soon after taking over as CEO in 2012, François-Henry Bennahmias gathered about 40 staff to imagine a new core movement, an integrated chronograph and a style distinct from the Royal Oak. Basic development began in October 2012 and concrete designs took shape around 2016. The name stands for Challenge, Own, Dare, Evolve, and 11.59 for the last minute before a new day.

In November 2019 a 99-piece Bolshoi edition gave the base model a smoked blue grand feu enamel dial, and the Minute Repeater Supersonnerie won the GPHG Men's Complication prize. A Grande Sonnerie and a tourbillon chronograph joined in 2020 as AP leaned on complications.

For AP's 150th anniversary a Code 11.59 perpetual calendar that sets every function through a single crown, a brand first, appeared in blue. In 2026 SJX noted that new 38 mm models moved to thinner alligator and calfskin straps that leave the lugs at a steeper angle.

The Code 11.59 Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 won the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève's top award, voted by a jury chaired by Nick Foulkes and an 847-member academy.
A unique two-tone white and pink gold Code 11.59 Tourbillon Openworked sold for CHF 1 million at the Only Watch charity auction in November 2019, for muscular dystrophy research.
A unique Starwheel with red lacquer dial made for Singapore's 60th year sold on 15 August 2025 for 480,000 Singapore dollars, with proceeds to the National Museum of Singapore.
Each strap bar is held by polished hexagonal-headed screws that echo the eight screws of the Royal Oak bezel, while the eight-sided middle case echoes the octagon itself.

Unveiled for AP's 150th anniversary, a blue white gold perpetual calendar whose functions can all be set with the single crown, a first for the brand. Retail was US$114,800.

Six steel references, four all steel and two with a black ceramic middle case, introduced a stamped ripple dial engraved by guilloché craftsman Yann von Kaenel and faceted indices in place of the Arabic numerals. Developing the steel bezel and lugs took four months.
Textile-topped, rubber-coated straps secured to the case with screws rather than spring bars; about 50 mm lug to lug.

The first smaller Code 11.59, launched in October 2023 as two pink gold models in ivory or purple, designed to sit comfortably on smaller wrists.
