In the middle of the Second World War, a company that built cockpit chronographs for air forces made its first watch meant for style rather than duty. Willy Breitling called it Premier, French for first.

Willy Breitling sensed a fatigue with wartime austerity and launched the Premier in 1943 as the brand's first style-led wristwatch. Cases came in solid gold or steel, from 32 mm to 38 mm.
The line grew a split-seconds chronograph, the Duograph, and a full calendar model, the Datora, with day, date, month and sometimes moon phase. Breitling also counts one of the first chronographs made for women among the 1940s Premiers.
SJX notes a late-1990s Premier with cursive Arabic numerals that the 2018 relaunch chose to ignore. Chrono24 says the name was otherwise absent from the catalogue for many years before 2018.
In 2018 CEO Georges Kern relaunched the Premier as Breitling's first modern collection for everyday elegance: B01 Chronograph 42, Chronograph 42, Automatic 40, Automatic Day and Date 40, plus a Bentley chronograph. A Norton motorcycle edition followed in 2019.
The 2021 Premier Heritage brought 40 mm chronographs closer to the 36 to 38 mm originals, plus a Duograph split-seconds and a Datora. A tourbillon chronograph trio named after the three founders came in 2022, and a B19 perpetual calendar Datora marked the brand's 140th anniversary.
In October 2025 Breitling launched Lady Premier, a women's line drawn from the 1940s Premier Fantaisies, in 36 mm automatic and 32 mm SuperQuartz sizes.
A Breitling Cinema Squad member, Pitt wore a Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Norton Edition while promoting Ad Astra in 2019; webChronos calls the Norton bracelet model the one he wears most in daily life.
Hosted the New York launch of the Premier Norton Edition in June 2019 and was pictured wearing the Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Norton Edition.
2022. The Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42 trio honoured Leon (craftsman), Gaston (innovator) and Willy Breitling (man of impeccable taste) in red gold, white gold and platinum.
2019. At Baselworld 2019 Breitling showed the Premier Norton Edition, and Norton answered with 77 Commando 961 Cafe Racer MKII Breitling Limited Edition motorcycles with Breitling-designed dials.
Willy Breitling is named as the designer of this line in the 1940s. Breitling's product pages say the Premier was designed by Willy Breitling in the 1940s as the brand's first watch dedicated to style.
