Cartier presented the Drive at SIHH 2016 in Geneva as a new shaped collection for men, with seven references including two complications. Revolution later called it a spiritual automotive successor to the Roadster.
The Drive arrived the year Cyrille Vigneron became CEO and refocused Cartier on women and heritage, leaving a men-only line with little marketing support. In 2021 Revolution listed it as a forgotten hero still in the collection.
A year later Cartier added an Extra-Flat model under 7 mm thick on the hand-wound 430 MC, and a moonphase. The white gold Extra-Flat was limited to 200 pieces.

Moonphase complication added to the line alongside the Extra-Flat.
