The story · Since 1866

The H. Moser & Cie. story

  1. 1866 Back in Schaffhausen, Heinrich Moser built a dam across the Rhine between 1863 and 1866, largely with his own money; its turbines sent mechanical power to local factories by cable, and it ran until 1959.
  2. 1868 Moser helped the American F. A. Jones found the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen, providing premises and power for its machines.
  3. 1979 Hit by the quartz crisis, the Le Locle factory joined the Dixi-Mechanique group and traded as "Hy Moser & Cie.", dropping the original name until it was registered again in 2002.
  4. 2006 The Moser Perpetual 1 (calibre HMC 341), whose date jumps straight from the last day of a month to the 1st and whose month is shown by a small central hand, won the Complicated Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve.
  5. 2017 Protesting looser "Swiss Made" rules, Moser dropped the label from its dials and showed the one-off Swiss Mad Watch at SIHH 2017: a case of Vacherin Mont d'Or cheese bound in a composite, a Swiss cowhide strap and a price of CHF 1,081,291, after the 1 August 1291 federal charter.
  6. 2025 Pierre Gasly co-designed the Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly, launched 1 October 2025 for the Singapore Grand Prix: a 40 mm 5N red gold case, a flying tourbillon he asked for and a dial colour he named Chocolate fume; ref. 6805-0410 (100 pieces) and ref. 6805-0411 (10 pieces, ruby at ten o'clock for his number 10).

Help

What is lug width?

The gap between the two lugs that hold the strap, in millimetres. A new strap must match it exactly: 20 mm lugs take a 20 mm strap.

Measure it in 30 seconds

  1. Take the strap off, or look at the back of it: many straps print their width.
  2. Measure the inside gap between the lugs with a caliper or a millimetre ruler.
  3. Round to the nearest whole millimetre. Most watches use 18, 20 or 22 mm.

Strap, quick release or system?

Most watches use spring bars, so any strap of the right width fits. Many smartwatches use their own band system instead, such as Apple Watch bands or Garmin QuickFit.
