The Ressence story
- 2010 Founded in Antwerp, Belgium by Benoît Mintiens.
- 2010 Ressence showed three prototypes at Baselworld.
- 2011 The first production run, the ZeroSeries, comprised 50 watches.
- 2015 The Type 5, a 46 mm titanium diving watch, was revealed.
- 2018 The Type 2 was introduced as a concept with the eCrown system.
- 2020 The Type 2, shown as a concept in 2018, went into production in 2019 with first deliveries in 2020; its eCrown automatically resets the mechanical time and stores a second time zone, and Mintiens says Tony Fadell, ex-Apple and the father of the iPod, already a Ressence customer, helped him develop it.
- 2022 Launched in March 2022 as the brand's sixth watch family, the Type 8 became Ressence's new entry point: an hours-and-minutes watch in grade 5 titanium weighing 42 grams with its strap, priced at CHF 12,500.
- 2024 The all-black, oil-filled Type 3 BB2 received a Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2024, the jury praising a display readable from every angle.
- 2025 For its 15th anniversary in March 2025 Ressence launched the Type 7, its first watch with a GMT function and its first metal (titanium) bracelet, in a 41 mm oil-filled case; the XV Aquamarine version was limited to 80 pieces.
- 2025 Industrial designer Marc Newson reworked the Type 3 into the elliptical Type 3 MN, inspired by his early Ikepod watches and limited to 80 pieces; it won a Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2026.
- 2026 Sixteen years after its first watch, Ressence unveiled its first in-house designed movement, the Werk RW-01, in the Type 11 at Watches and Wonders 2026: built by Swiss developer Concepto, it integrates the ROCS display and gives 60 hours of reserve. Until then Ressence watches ran on adapted ETA movements, which the brand will keep using in other models.
