    The Richard Mille story

    1. 2001 Richard Mille presented his first watch, the RM 001 Tourbillon, at Baselworld, with a tonneau case and a movement suspended on arms shaped like F1 shock absorbers; he threw it on the floor to show its shock resistance.
    2. 2010 Rafael Nadal first wore the RM 027 Tourbillon, about 20 grams, in competition at the 2010 French Open and won it, his fifth French Open; he went on to win Wimbledon and the US Open that year wearing it.
    3. 2012 Bubba Watson won the 2012 Masters wearing the RM 038 Golfer's Tourbillon, a watch Richard Mille designed for him.
    4. 2014 Richard Mille released the RM 38-01 G-Sensor Tourbillon Bubba Watson, limited to 50 pieces, to celebrate Watson's second Masters title in 2014; Watson later won the 2018 Genesis Open wearing it.
    5. 2017 Rafael Nadal won a record tenth French Open and the 2017 US Open wearing his RM 027.
    6. 2021 Richard Mille became a sponsor of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team in 2021; on 26 May 2024 Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won the Monaco Grand Prix at his seventh attempt, wearing an RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph in white ceramic.

    Firsts and innovations

    Richard Mille introduced carbon fibre to the watch industry with the RM 006.

    Richard Mille introduced aluminium-lithium to watchmaking with the RM 009.

    2017. The RM 50-03 introduced Graph TPT, a graphene composite, and was at launch the lightest mechanical chronograph ever made.

    What is lug width?

    The gap between the two lugs that hold the strap, in millimetres. A new strap must match it exactly: 20 mm lugs take a 20 mm strap.

    Measure it in 30 seconds

    1. Take the strap off, or look at the back of it: many straps print their width.
    2. Measure the inside gap between the lugs with a caliper or a millimetre ruler.
    3. Round to the nearest whole millimetre. Most watches use 18, 20 or 22 mm.

    Strap, quick release or system?

    Most watches use spring bars, so any strap of the right width fits. Many smartwatches use their own band system instead, such as Apple Watch bands or Garmin QuickFit.
